doorstep garden

This is something you may not know about me - but I'm obsessed with gardening.  Except, I haven't had a plant for like 8 months or so...I keep moving...and my Phoenix plants keep dying because my roomies forget about them and such.  It's not their fault...they are my plants after all.

In college, my windowsills were overflowing with potted plants.  In fact, I ruined my first computer after water leaked from my watering.  (The computer started smoking....my dad was not amused...whoops!)

Someday I'll garden again.  Until then I'll just appreciate Sera's polaroids of her lovely Washington plants.

pin cushion

As a novice quilter, I have the basics...a couple of needles, my grandmother fabric scissors, a container of pins, and a variety of grocery store plastic bags separating my threads, from my laces, from my fabric.  It's very rudimentary.  So you can imagine how droll worthy these sweet little pin cushions are to me...I want to make one...but know that I should not/will not take on another crafting project...even for a small sweet little cushion.  Aren't the adorable?

life...inspired.

note: Oh man I don't know how to fix the SIZE so you can watch it. See it on youtube..it might change your life.

This video has been faithfully posted to my MySpace account for years...except I haven't even been on MySpace in about a year...and I missed this little video of loveliness. I used to watch it rather frequently...I find it terribly inspiring.

Like right now, I'm rejuvenated...to do something great. Or simple. Like, smile.

gone to paris

Cafe Love by Etsy artist alicebgardens

My parents left for Paris yesterday.   I find it wildly romantic that they opt to spend a couple weeks in Europe every year.  Last year was Greece...the year before that was Italy....this year is France (and a little slice of Italy I believe.)   I wish I could fit in their suitcase...to steal a look at those beautiful places.

My mom loves to see everything...she's so fun to travel with...high energy (she lived in France for a while...see some of her pictures here).  My dad loves to see the sites too...except his favorite Parisian activity is to sit and drink coffee at the quaint outdoor cafes, and people watch.  They are a perfect travel team.

When I said au revoir to my parents as they waited to board the plane, my heart got stuck in my throat and it was impossible not to cry like a little girl.  I guess I'll always be a little girl when it comes to my parents.

I want them to live forever.

tombstones

One of the highlights of our lil trip to Tombstone was the Boothill Graveyard. The local historical society keeps it looking fresh...probably a little more spic n span than it was in the late 1800's...but it was plenty interesting....and wicked creepy.

It was kindof sad...as most cemetaries are. There were so many tombstones that read "suicide." There was an informational packet that guides you through the graveyard, telling you a little bit more into the life, and death, of the people buried here.

There are a bunch of "ghost" tours at night...I think next time I'll do one of those.

"As you pass by,
remember that as you are,
so once was I,
and as I am, you soon will be.

Remember me."

*le creuset contest!*

Go win this Le Creuset bakeware set from the fantastical Sera of one of my fave blogs ever, broken*saucer. Personally, I'm crossing my fingers that I win. Just sayin'.

skulls = southwestern decor (click on the image...it's so rad...I'm proud my lil camera packs a mean punch like that!)

I took a day off this week. It's exactly what I needed to feel refreshed and alive.

"Where should I feel alive today?" I wondered. Perhaps the city too tough to die? It felt fitting.

So...Tommy and I day tripped it to the middle of nowhere...and landed in Tombstone. And it was just a glorious as I imagined. It was rustic and dusty. With crusty saloons and clean bathrooms. Some of it was really touristy...but it has a right to be. It's a well preserved bad ass town preserving everything that made the wild west amazing.

I loved it.

Even if the shoot out at the OK Corral made me giggle. I would so totally go again.

Arizona is so fun.

Everyone wears boots. Everyone.

Wyatt Earp and the boys.
note: I really wanted my picture taken with them...but they made me nervous.

Toured the oldest printing press in the state of Arizona - the Epitaph.

The Historama was this rad vintage experience....
decorated with HUGE movie posters of all the films portraying Tombstone.

Stages. I can't get over the whole idea of wooden wheels. Wha???

I am a tourist. I take pictures of things like giant wooden Native American statues.

This was one of Tommy's favorite things we saw that day. Yup.

they were young too

Marilyn Monroe

I'm fascinated with old pictures. You don't even want to know the obsession I have with my family's old photographs. I cannot get enough. I am so hypnotized with the images of my parents at my age...and of my grandparents at my age. When I was little I was drawn to their childhood likeness, and now I'm drawn to the images of their 20's.

I find these younger photos of these celebs to be wildly entertaining. Check out all 125 rare photos of famous people here...via emilyabigail

heart in stiches

via here
I brought my quilting stuff down to Tucson. I had a crazy notion that maybe I'd have some "free" time from the hospital where I'd want to be crafty. Little did I know that when I'm not at the hospital I am sleeping...in my clothes...with my makeup on.

But. I like having my quilting stuff here anyway. Just in case.

Don't you just love that lil hidden heart? I do.

*note: I spent a few magical moments quilting this week right before I went to bed...mending the patches that I almost ruined in the washing machine. I think my quilt might just be saved. I'm so happy :-)

teddy

This is Teddy. He lives with my future in-laws. And when I lived with them in December, I fell in love with this fluffy fellow. Isn't he just so handsome?

I'm totally ashamed to admit that I am not a "dog" person. I'm just not. I sorta wish I was. I attribute this to being somewhat terrorized by a friend's dog when we were little. Anyway...I really really dig this guy...and I find myself kinda missing him.

Tommy really really really wants a dog. My only stipulation is that it has to be part poodle...cuz now...well...I'm a poodle person.

cake for kami

fab lil painting via MAGPIE lovely

Today is my best friends birthday.
I remember celebrating our birthdays
with cupcakes
that our moms would bring to elementary school.
And all those those bowling ally birthdays...
or the gingerbread house decorating parties...
or the celebrations spent at the theater...
or the ooodles of slumber parties.
Ballet lessons brought us together when we were 5...
it's been quite a few birthday wishes to witness!

Happy Birthday Kami!

Mucho hugs, love and frosting my dear.

butterfly wings

Wow. That's really all I can say....I've never seen such a thing...and I can't stop looking at them.

These earrings are MADE FROM BUTTERFLY WINGS! I know...crazy beautiful right? They are handmade by artisans in Peru, from butterflies that have died naturally in butterfly farms...

"Not only does this provide needed income for the farmers and silversmiths, but also helps prevent deforestation by offering alternative income in the amazon, and education about delicate ecosystems, creating sustainability and helping preserve wild butterfly populations."

Go check out the delightful handmade lovelies at Seven Hopes United, a globally involved fair trade market.

OK. I know I've mentioned it before. But today it all became OFFICIALLY official:

I got my #1 ranked residency program...and I'm moving to upstate New York.

You don't even know how excited my bones are. And the sense of calm my heart feels knowing that it's OFFICIAL. And real. And happening.

My world is going to change. In a big apple kinda way. I think I'm ready.

to do

via naturally nina

I'm in a weird mood these days. I'm a lil blue...ummm....a lot blue actually. I can't help feeling defeated and it's driving me nuts. If you knew me in real life, you'd know that this is odd - I'm a life liver...smile giver...joy seeker. I enjoy the ride...you know?

I need to get out of this sad place (that I'm sure has to do with the car crash I was in last week, or the fact that my computer also crashed last week, or that I had to take my medical boards exam this week and it sucked, or that I'm miserable at the hospital rotation I'm in right now, or that I'm living far away from everyone I know, or that I'm questioning my choice of going into medicine in the first place, or that I don't get a single day off this month - yes, I work at the hospital every. single. day.) Yes - I just threw myself a pity party. Yea, it sorta made me feel better.

I will smile easily again. I just have to keep breathing.
